2022 Manuel Bartolomé Cossío Award to the MANES Research Centreal

The 30th anniversary of the MANES Research Centre closes with the Manuel Bartolomé Cossío Award, granted annually by the Spanish Society for the Study of Historical-Educational Heritage (SEPHE).

In the resolution of the 2022 Manuel Bartolomé Cossío Award, signed on 28 November, the jury highlighted the work carried out by the MANES Research Centre in the protection, dissemination and safeguarding of school textbooks, both in Spain and in Latin America, promoting research and transfer, organizing events and publishing, as well as assessing a large number of Doctoral and Master’s Theses on different topics related to the history of school textbooks.

The Spanish Society for the Study of Historical-Educational Heritage (SEPHE), founded in 2004, has as its main objectives the protection, conservation and study of historical and educational heritage, as well as the promotion, encouragement, support and dissemination of actions related to these purposes. Members of the SEPHE are researchers, as well as various educational museums located in different Autonomous Communities. The Society is also supported by the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute (Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España).

In the past, the SEPHE has also awarded several grants to the MANES Research Centre for the restoration of school texts and other materials preserved in its historical collection. In 2014 MANES organised, together with a group of researchers from the Complutense University, the University of Alcalá and the San Isidro and Isabel la Católica Historical Secondary Schools in Madrid, the VI SEPHE Scientific Conference on the theme “Museum pedagogy: practices, didactic uses and research into educational heritage”.

We thank the SEPHE for the recognition of our work over the last 30 years, and hope that we will continue to collaborate on joint projects for many more years to come.
